On February 11th, when the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated – a date established in 2015 by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) – the Research Development Foundation (Fundep), from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), with support from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), presents another edition of the Women in Science online event to highlight the female presence and its leading role in the research environment. The event will be held from 4pm to 5:30pm, on Fundep's YouTube channel, and registration is free. In the program, researchers from different Institutes of Science and Technology in Brazil will talk about topics that include the trajectory of a woman in science – from the first experiences with knowledge in the family and school, to occupying leadership positions in the academic structure. Professor Leonice Mourad, from the Department of Teaching Methodology at the UFSM Education Center, is one of the guests at the event.

Throughout this trajectory of construction and learning, the action highlighted women who carry out science in the country. In this edition, in addition to Professor Leonice.
Identities in science The event will also include the launch of the series “Identities in science”, an initiative that proposes a more sensitive look at the presence of women in the production of knowledge. The series is promoted by the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation and the Serrapilheira Institute, with the support of the UNESCO Regional Science Office in Latin America and the Caribbean. “Breaking with the distance from environments linked to science, the series brings four stories by Brazilian researchers. Stories that value their uniqueness, overcoming and achievements, showing that the identity of a woman scientist is made up of several others”, explains Dilian Caiafa, creator of the initiative and journalist at Fundep. The series also consists of more than 20 photographic essays by researchers spread across Brazil, carried out in places that connect with their identities, such as their homes, in nature and in places that show their lifestyles. “Identities in science” is organized by Fundep and participated by and Inca. The page with the entire collection produced will be released during the Women in Science event. Registration is free and can be done via this link .
